Operation Christmas Child October 2014
To get our new Year 9 GCSE Business and Enterprise students off to great start in their enterprise ventures, Mrs Hunter (Subject Leader for DT and Business Enterprise), took on our annual committment for the Enterprise Team to manage a social enterprise project, our contribution to Operation Christmas Child Appeal.
The students took the responsibility for wrapping donated shoeboxes and filling them with toys and gifts to be shipped to deserving children all over the world. This includes raising funds to pay for the shopping cost of £3.00 per box!
The group went to Asda, Brierley Hill with Mrs Hunter, and Mrs Turner, PTC’s Director of Communications for 4 hours in October to pack bags for shoppers. Through shopper donations, they raised over £650!
Mrs Hunter said, “This has been a fabulous opportunity for our Business Enterprise students to embark on for their first Enterprise project. They have had such a valuable experience from this project alone and gained some essential entrepreneurial skills already, such as influencing and negotiating skills, customer service, sourcing materials at the best cost, telephone skills and many more. It has helped them understand key considerations when starting out on an enterprise project and a social enterprise venture fits in with Pedmore’s values in supporting our community, this time on a global scale”.
Many thanks to Lisa Southall and our partners at Asda, Merry Hill for supporting us with this venture.
