Lord Jordan visits our school today!
Lord Jordan talks to our Citizenship students
A member of the House of Lords, Lord Jordan visited our school today to talk to our Year 11 Citizenship students, explaining about the political and parliamentary process. He also met and gave a brief talk to Year 5 children from a visiting primary school, Cradley C of E Primary.
Lord Jordan spoke to our Citizenship students for over an hour about the work and role of the House of Lords and his lifetime and career experiences. This was followed by a question and answer session on various aspects of the parliamentary process and life at Westminster generally.
Mrs Shaaban, Subject Leader of Citizenship says, “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students who have all thoroughly enjoyed meeting Lord Jordan and being able to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives. We would like to thank Lord Jordan for his time today.”
The visit was arranged through the Lord Speaker’s “Peers in Schools” programme, which has been running across the UK since 2007 and has so far involved around 50,000 young people. This continuing outreach programme sends members of the House of Lords into schools and colleges across the country to give talks in support of the citizenship curriculum.
