Young Enterprise Success - We Win 2 Awards!

First year of Young Enterprise at PTC and we scoop 2 awards!

This year to build on the success of former student enterprise venture at PTC, we have had the opportunity to participate in the Young Enterprise Company Programme and enter two Year 10 teams.    Young Enterprise is an enterprise and financial education charity reaching over 250,000 young people every year.  The Company Programme enables participants to experience what it’s like to set up and run a student company.  The project kicked off with Young Enterprise representatives introducing the project and setting an enterprise challenge to Year 9 in our PSHE day July 2017.

Running throughout one academic year, students make all the decisions about their enterprise, from deciding on the name and product to creating a business plan, managing the student company finances and selling to the public at trade fairs. All this takes place with the support of a volunteer Business Adviser who brings a wealth of business knowledge and expertise. A range of resources are provided to help manage the company and the teams track their progress using self-assessment tools and compete against other schools in local, regional and national competitions.

Our teams this year did an outstanding job!  Their first trade fair and selling experience was on Friday 24th November at the INTU’s Merry Hill Centre.  Teams (working as mini-businesses, having worked frantically in the weeks running up to the event), made their festive gifts and displays to ensure customers would be wowed by the quality of their products.

The teams also sought their own trade fairs which included a sales day at Stourbridge HSBC – the only school profiled in their small business enterprise week and had great sales success there, chatting to customers about their mini business and products.

The trade fairs, running the businesses and submitted full company reports to a tight deadline, led up to the Black Country Young Enterprise Regional Finals on 9th May hosted at the University of Wolverhampton.  Here, our teams set out their stalls and battled against other competing schools in the region showcasing their businesses.

 After some tough questioning from the judges and stall inspections, the teams had to give presentations about their experience of Young Enterprise and their business stories in a packed lecture theatre in front with the some very experienced competing schools and judges.

After much deliberation by the judges, the results were given.  We are delighted to announce that Pedmore Team 1 (Old 2 New) won two awards;

Best Managing Director - Anna best MD award
