Year 9 speakers blow away the competition at Rotary Club Youth Speaks!
Year 9 and 10 battle it out against other Stourbridge Schools and come home winners!
Two teams (one Year 9 and one Year 10) battled it out at the Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition hosted at Redhill School school recently.
Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition aims to offer young people an experience of speaking on a public platform as members of a team, formulating their own ideas on a topical subject within a limited time frame competing against other schools.
Our Year 9 team, Harley Keasey, Anna Barnard and Georgi Fillipov won the intermediate group beating Haybridge, Hagley RC and Redhill!
Their chosen topic to discuss was “American Britain” and they now go to the next stage of the district competition on Saturday 3rd March. Our Year 10 team came a close second. They have asked to compete in the competition again next year and are determined to win!
Mrs Rhodes, our English teacher who took our teams said, “Our students' performance at the competition was so polished that we blew away the competition! We are really proud of this achievement and the team is very excited about the next district competition on 3rd March”. UPDATE - sadly the team didn't win the regional heat but did us proud!
PTC hold a weekly Debating Club where students practise to develop oracy skills, critical thinking and confident communication. New members always welcome.
