Students visit Sanderson Court Retirement Complex
Students get to know members of our local community
Today Year 8 went to visit local residents at "Sanderson Court" a retirement complex in Hagley. This was part of a new project "Care in the community" where students are learning all about the diverse community we live in. Students used a range of literacy, numeracy and geographical skills during their study. They met and interviewed residents, discussed the location and it's amenities and shared some snacks during the coffee morning. They were also made to feel very welcome by Pam, the House Manager who helped to coordinate the event. Miss Durrant, trip leader commented: "Our students were intrigued to learn how some of the older generation live in today's society. Their preconceived ideas of retirement were challenged as they realise that there is a lot to learn and do as we grow older; they enjoyed interviewing residents to find out all about their hobbies, the social events they attend and their family background". The residents complimented students on their studies and remarked how lovely it was to see lots of young people working hard.
Many thanks to Mr Lent for accompanying the trip and Miss Walker/Mr Scriven for driving the minibus.
