PTC supports World Autism Awareness Week
What we are doing at PTC to raise awareness and understanding of Autism this week
This week is World Autism Awareness Week and at PTC we are supporting the National Autistic Society's initiative with a range of activities.
Mrs Morris, one of the members of our Teaching Assistant team has done an informative display to raise awareness of the condition outside our Additional Educational Needs Centre in S block, a corridor used by many of our students and staff.
The AEN department have also made and are selling Autism Awareness ribbons to raise funds for the National Autistic Society and our new multi-sensory room at PTC. On the blue ribbons there is a jigsaw shape to reflect the ASD complexities. The badges are for sale in our staff room and ILC for a donation (minimum value 50p).
On Friday The National Autistic Society will be realising a new film about Autism. They want as many people to sign up on the Thunderclap website at https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/54860-help-people-understand-autism which will automatically post a one-time message on 31st March onto their account to publicise the film launch. We have signed up on our school Twitter and Facebook accounts.
This week, our SENCO (Mrs Durrant), will be attending an Autism Outreach event aimed at reviewing the caseload of our new Year 7's coming to us in September. This involves student/parent voices, teacher targets and social skills etc.
Finally, during the Summer term we will be holding a mufti day highlighting Autism.
