Making Castles with Year 7
Subjects Come Together to Help Year 7 Understand Medieval Times
At the beginning of the Spring Term our Year 7’s began exploring medieval times in History and looking at the dwellings and the construction of castles. As part of this project, students were asked to independently research castle design and build a model that represented their choice. Prizes were awarded to the best models submitted.
The History Department were bowled over by the quality of the models built and depth of research shown by our students. Here’s just a small selection of the castles.
There were some very tough decisions made by our judges and several additional awards were given as the standard was so high.
Several students were awarded commendations. These were:-
Brandon Wagstaff, Sophie Hadley, Zac Hall, Mia Murray, Lois Harper, Georgina Pardoe, Josh Trevis, Remar Gordon, Georgia Smith, Alicia Hackett, Chloe Williams, Emily Sharkey, Jake Clarke, Saimoon Saghir, Jessica Marsden, Heena Azeem, Demmi Shields
Prize winners received Horrible Histories books and pen sets.
Prize winners and their castles
To support the student’s with research in this project an exciting trip is organised for Monday 18 May for the whole year group to visit Warwick Castle which dates back to 1066. Pupils will get first hand experience of what life was like in the medieval times.
The Design Technology Department will then work with Year 7 to make food, costumes and medieval entertainment for the Year 7 Medieval Banquet held in July at PTC.
