UPDATE - Imogen did PTC proud at the Springboard FutureChef West Midlands Final
Budding chef Imogen does PTC proud at the Springboard FutureChef West Midlands finals
We are delighted to announce that our budding Year 9 chef Imogen won third place at the Springboard FutureChef West Midlands Finals in Birmingham on Saturday 4th February. This final followed Imogen winning two regional cooking competition finals in one week recently. At the Birmingham final Imogen battled it our against 5 other competitors.
The winner was a UCB student chef studying on an apprenticeship with the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and second place went to a cook who was restaurant trained so Year 9 Imogen did exceptionally well!
The outstanding success started when Imogen tested her skills against five other aspiring cooks at the FutureChef 2017 contest, hosted by the Heart of Worcetershire College on 10th January.
Imogen prepared Parisian chicken drizzled with red wine sauce followed by a berry cheesecake crunch. Her dishes lead her to win the Worcestershire schools heat, entering her into the West Midlands Regional Final. She said: "My main dish was inspired by something I tried in a restaurant. I really enjoy cooking and have practised a few times for today. I am looking forward to working with a mentor."
Head judge Clive Jones, from Catermasters, said: "The creativity shown by the young students today has been great and all full of flavour. All the dishes cooked today had positive elements and I hope all the competitors keep cooking."
The competition is organised by Springboard, a charity which works with young people to help them build a career in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry. For more about Springboard and Future Competition, click here. To see Imogens Stourbridge News article covering the story click here.
The national finals will be held at Westminster Kingsway College, in London, on Monday, March 27.
Imogen's second success was at the Rotary Young Chef competition Stourbridge Schools heat, hosted at PTC on 12th January. Imogen battled it out against her peers and blew the judges away with her dishes.
She will now go on to compete in this district final in Rugby on 4th March.
Good luck Imogen!
