Our Year 11's win the Construction Day Challenge!

Big Brother star Craig Phillips attends the Construction launch at Stourbridge College and celebrates our win!

On 12th October 9 Year 11's and Mr Smallwood and Mrs Turner were invited to attend the Construction facility launch and taster day at Stourbridge College Hagley Road campus.  Our group had hands-on sessions in plumbing, carpentry and electrics and the opportunity to talk to lecturers about courses in these professions at 16+ and their future career aspirations.  All the group threw themselves into the challenges that were set (most with no previous experience whatsoever), to get the very most out of the day.

The launch of the Construction area attracted celebrity Craig Phillips, the 1st Big Brother winner, TV presenter and property developer together with other VIP's including the Principal and Chief Executive of BMet, Andrew Cleaves.

At the end of the day we were delighted to be awarded the winners of the Contruction Day Challenge, beating the Redhill team.

Mrs Turner said, "This has been a great opportunity for our students who expressed an interest in exploring construction related industries, gaining hands-on experience of tasks to be faced on Level 2 and 3 courses.  This together with discussing career, course and entry details with the lecturers has given us all a real insight into the sector and what the college can offer.  Winning the challenge today and meeting the VIP's has made this an extra special occasion for us all.  We are very proud of our team's achievement".   For more coverage of the event, visit our school's Facebook and Twitter sites and the Stourbridge News website.
