As part of a comprehensive Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) Programme here at PTC our Year 9, 10, and 11 will be heavily involved in a range of activities throughout the year to inform them of the choices at 16+ (including occupational sector research and experiences and Further Education and Training options).
Events begun with the PTC Careers Fair on Monday 3rd October 4:00-6:30pm. It was very important Year 11 and their parents/carers to attend this event but other year groups were also invited and encouraged to attend. At the fair, representatives from our local colleges, sixth forms and other training providers were on hand to discuss their courses that they offer at 16+ and what GCSE's are needed to enter their programmes. We also had employers who wanted to discuss and promote their employment opportunities including apprenticeships. To supplement this event, experts ran two workshops running throughout the evening; Going to college and the Application process and Understanding Apprenticeships.
On 3rd October a group of Year 11 students went to Rolls Royce, Derbyshire. This event was in partnership with the Your Life campaign: a government initiative that enables young people to experience STEM industries in within a working context. This was a great opportunity for students to see what happens at Rolls-Royce, an insight into their departments and roles, as well as a series of fantastic STEM related workshops.
On 15th and 17th November our Year 9 and 10 sets 1-3 students wil be taking part in an online event, Not Just for Scientists. During this workshop, our students will have the opportunity to discuss their subject choices with a team team of ambassadors, talk career options with current apprentices or graduates and find out how what they are learning in the classroom applies to a real life career in Maths and Physics.
On 17th and 18th November our Year 10 and 11 visit the biggest Careers related event in the country, The Skills Show at the NEC. Click here for more details.
