Pedmore currently having a lockdown drill

As part of our standard fire drill, evacuation, lockdown and safety procedures we are currently staging a mock lockdown of the college site. This is a test and ensures that staff and students are familiar with the procedure and confident in the process. We will update this webpage as soon as the test procedure is complete.

Lip Varvi is coming to Stourbridge Town!

Our Graphic Design Students open their shop in Stourbridge on Friday 7th June

Students and staff are very excited as they get ready for the launch of their pop-up shop selling unique hand -dyed garments and accessories. “Lip Varvi” opens on Friday 7th June in Stourbridge Ryemarket Shopping Centre.

In January, a group of 8 Year 10 GCSE Graphic Design pupils competed in the finals of a competition run by the Black Country Enterprise Challenge to develop the idea of a pop-up shop. The team had a good, deliverable business idea (a unique clothing and accessory range aimed at the teenage market) and as a result have been offered a vacant shop in Stourbridge. This opportunity will help turn an idea into reality and support the local town and high street regeneration initiative.

After a lot of hard work and commitment (dying garments and accessories, making bags and shop displays and securing sponsorship from local retailers and business etc.), a range of totally individual and unique t-shirts and accessories have been made.

These will be available to buy in the “Lip Varvi” shop. Mrs Kate Hunter, head of Design Technology said, “This has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to have a taste in enterprise and entrepreneurship. The team and other students have worked very hard using a variety of tie-dye and other dying techniques to ensure every garment is truly unique. They have learnt new creative skills together with gaining experience in building a business idea, the production of products, working as a team and delivering to a tight deadline to name but a few. Having the shop will allow the team to see how important selling skills are in ensuring a business is successful. Local business support has been invaluable to the project and we would like to thank all who have supported our venture”.

The shop is opposite Poundland in the Ryemarket and on the launch day, staff and students will be joined by MP Margot James and other VIP’s. The shop will be open from 9:30-3:00 on Fridays and Saturdays throughout June.

We will be registering with Young Enterprise to be entered into a national competition next year. Current and new Year 10 students involved in the next enterprise venture and will also be able to gain a qualification in Enterprise.

Our Headteacher, Mr Lloyd explains, ”I am really excited by this fantastic opportunity for our students. Once again Pedmore is taking a lead in Stourbridge by working with the local community, businesses and other organisations to develop skills that will take them forward. Our Enterprise venture is just one example of many new initiatives that are being developed and delivered at Pedmore and we will be looking at how we can support and work with our partners in yet more creative ways in the near future”.
