Pedmore currently having a lockdown drill

As part of our standard fire drill, evacuation, lockdown and safety procedures we are currently staging a mock lockdown of the college site. This is a test and ensures that staff and students are familiar with the procedure and confident in the process. We will update this webpage as soon as the test procedure is complete.

3 PTC Teams get through to the S4TP Semi Finals!

3 out of 4 of our PTC teams are picked to take their business ideas to the Solutions For the Planet Semi Finals at the University of Wolverhampton on 12th May.

We are proud to announce three out of the four teams involved in the Solutions for the Planet Big Idea national competition are through to the semi-finals, taking place at the University of Wolverhampton on 12th May.  PTC is the only Dudley school to reach the semi final’s and will be battling it out with 2 Wolverhampton schools to gain a place in the final at Westminster!

Tom Bradley and Jordan Leighton- Team Castor – have a ‘Big Idea’ to save water usage in the home.  They have developed an idea for a shower unit that you turn on by using your finger print.  This will have a system (similar to school) where it recognises who you are.  You can have pre-set timers on there so that the parents in the home can control how long each person can shower for.  There will be other functions such as sports mode etc.

Reece Faulker – Team Pulse – has a ‘Big Idea’ to save energy.  A phone case that will recharge your phone through kinetic energy.  This will allow for better safety – in case your phone battery dies whilst you are in a vulnerable situation.  The added advantage also means the user can avoid having to charge it by using electricity.

Shahban Ali Ahmed – Team Sproket – has a ‘Big Idea’ to also save energy and avoid wastage.  He has an idea for a renewable energy cube.  It can be recharged using kinetic energy, solar energy, wind power etc.  This can then be used as a power source.  Whilst he is initially thinking about a small portable device, it seems that this idea has much wider potential within industry.

Carly Davis, English teacher and organiser of Pedmore’s Big Idea teams said, “Our Year 9 teams have worked so hard over the last term developing their ideas with business mentors from Tarmac and Brammer over several weeks and we are so proud to hear that three of our teams business plans have earned them places in the semi final.  This is the first year our school has been involved in the competition and to reach this stage is a real achievement”
