Pedmore currently having a lockdown drill

As part of our standard fire drill, evacuation, lockdown and safety procedures we are currently staging a mock lockdown of the college site. This is a test and ensures that staff and students are familiar with the procedure and confident in the process. We will update this webpage as soon as the test procedure is complete.

Our Book Club attends Dudley Book Awards Ceremony

Students meet their favourite authors

Our Book Club has been very busy this term preparing for the 2015 Dudley Book Awards. Students read the nominated titles, discussed their opinions of the six fantastic books and voted for their overall favourite read!  The books were:-

  • Sally Green: Half Bad
  • David Massey: Taken
  • Megan Rix: A Soldier’s Friend
  • Rebecca Westcott: Dandelion Clocks
  • Lara Williamson: A Boy called Hope
  • Charlie Fletcher: Dragon Shield

Members attended the awards ceremony on Tuesday 17th March at Dormston School, and met the three well-renowned children’s authors: David Massey, Megan Rix and Charlie Fletcher.

The authors introduced themselves and spoke about the inspirations for their books; students gained valuable insight into the life of a writer and the creative process of writing a book.

After hearing from all three visiting authors, the winner was finally announced… The Book Club were delighted to hear that ‘Taken’ by local author, David Massey, won the pretgious award.

We were especially pleased as David, has visited our school in 2013 as a special guest author and told us all about his novels and life experiences.

Following the ceremony, students enjoyed the opportunity to meet the authors, get their books signed, and even to be snapped with their favourite author!

A fantastic day, throughout which the Book Club were impeccably behaved ambassadors for our school.
